Hi! I'm Janis and I am a retired elementary music teacher. But this blog is not about music and it is not about children. This is a blog about cats — feral cats.

The story begins with my first post—Cassie!

The Great Escape!

Pippa

October-November 2016

Mistake #2! Charky and Star escaped from the garage! Accidentally, of course. I let one out and Don, the other, at different times.

Charky
Star and Ash
We tried and tried to get them to come back. And where did they go? Back to their home, across the street, where my daughter now lives. And they do not want to take care of them.

So Pippa was the only one left. And she was coming and going, in and out, until one day, she left and has not come back.

I am writing this post in October 2017. The cats are seen around the neighborhood and everyone is feeding them, I think. Except me because they won't come. We do have a few others that weren't part of the original colony, but I'm so sad about my babies that were with me since they were born.

Here's what I would have done differently—

  1. When I had them, I should have put them in our bonus room where there was no chance of escape. And then let them out into the house gradually. I would have loved to have found homes for them. They are all very sweet, lovable cats.
  2. I sure would have been more careful and not let them escape! Duh!
Ash is Pippa's sister from the first litter. Ash is very skittish and the only one I have not been able to pet, pick up or handle.

I haven't given up. I know they still need care. But relocating feral cats is almost impossible!
